Here are some of the most frequent questions we are asked. If you cannot find the answer to your question here, please get in touch.
Guest check in time is from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Please arrive no later than 7:00 pm to ensure other guests will not be disturbed. It will also give you time to have an evening meal before the pubs and restaurants in Fort Augustus stop serving food.
You may drop off your luggage earlier if arriving by public transport, cycling or walking but this needs to be by prior arrangement, as we may not be available. After all, someone has got to go out and buy the food items for your breakfast! Please be aware that with all the extra sanitising now required, cleaning each room and our communal areas takes much longer now to ensure all our guests will be staying in a safe clean environment.
We appreciate that sometimes travel arrangements do not always go to plan. If you think you might not be able to arrive by 7pm, please get in touch with us on the day to advise of your expected arrival time. Please be mindful that you are staying in a house and late arrivals could disturb other guests, so if you know you will be arriving after 9pm please do not book with us.
There is a small parking area at the front of the B&B which is available for you to use on a first come first serve basis. Alternatively, you can park on the road in front, however this can be busy during the day and we would ask that you are considerate to our neighbours when parking there.
Wi-Fi is provided throughout the B&B and is free to use. Details of the network name and password can be found in your room.
No! You will be given your room key and a main door key to come and go as you wish during your stay. We just ask that early birds and night owls are respectfully quiet between the hours of 10pm and 7am for the comfort of other guests.
Please ensure you check-out by 10:00 am. This allows us to make sure the rooms are cleaned and sanitised thoroughly before our next guests arrive.
All rooms are strictly no smoking – this includes vaping. This is Scottish Law. We are sure you will be pleased to know that Lorien House is fitted with an extremely sensitive fire alarm system to protect all our guests. You are welcome to smoke or vape at the front of the house away from the main door. Should this policy be ignored, there is a minimum £50 additional cleaning charge.
We include our plentiful breakfast in the room rate. We offer many cooked options including smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, full Scottish and vegetarian options. If you have any dietary requirements, we would be grateful if you could let us know in advance. This will ensure we have food items in for you.
No. We do bed and breakfast only. However, there are pubs and restaurants that serve good quality food close by, so why not give them a try and enjoy local hospitality!
A microwave and fridge are provided in the breakfast room for guest use. If you bring in a takeaway you are welcome to eat it in the breakfast room and we would be happy to provide you with plates, cutlery and condiments – please just ask.
Yes – all cold water is from direct mains supply so is suitable for drinking.
We provide Cole & Lewis hand wash, hair & body wash, conditioner, a hand towel, bath towel and bath sheet per person for in room use.
Yes - there is a hairdryer in each of our rooms for you to use.
We have a ground floor room which is suitable for the less mobile, however there is one step up into the house. The bathroom is not fully adapted (yet!). Our breakfast room and guest lounge are on the ground floor.
Our rooms cannot accommodate extra beds and therefore we are unable to accept bookings with babies or young children. Older children over 10 years old are welcome if they are able to stay in their own room or share the twin room.
Each of our rooms has its own kettle along with a selection of teas and coffee for you to enjoy. Fresh milk is also available.
Although we are animal lovers, we do not take pets due to unknown allergies of other guests. Our black cat Poppy lives downstairs in our apartment, but she does not enter the B&B areas. You may see her wandering around the garden though.
Now there’s a question! Many people over the years have claimed to have seen Nessie, although she can be somewhat elusive. Make sure you keep your eyes peeled when you go by Loch Ness just in case!
